A Chartered Adventure: From Ibiza to Formentera with Friends
Mar 24
During our first visit to Spain, Kristin and I, joined her best friend and her husband, on an unforgettable chartered boat journey from Ibiza to Formentera, cruising the surreal Balearic Sea. The excitement was palpable as we anticipated exploring the stunning locales around the island, guided by our affable Captain, Marco. We hopped on our fittingly named charter for the day, the “Smart Ass” 🤣 and left the MIRA Ibiza Marina via Smart Charter Ibiza.
Cala Saona: A Sparkling Introduction
Our adventure began with a visit to Cala Saona, a decision influenced by Marco's fondness for the spot, aiming to give us a special experience right off the bat. The 20-minute journey from Ibiza revealed a breathtaking scene: crystal-clear blue waters where the sandy bottom was visible even from 20 feet above. This was a great spot to snap some pics and jump in the water!
The presence of several other magnificent boats anchored in the bay reassured us of the safety and allure of this hidden gem. Although we missed the chance to try Hydro Foil lessons offered by a local, the sheer beauty of the area and our activities, including swimming and paddle boarding, more than made up for it. A highlight was Kristin managing a handstand on the paddleboard, a feat made all the more impressive given our indulgence in champagne.😉
Lunch at Platja de Ses Illetes
Next, we made our way to Platja de Ses Illetes for lunch, navigating to a bustling bay filled with boats. The journey to our lunch spot, es Ministre, was nothing short of epic, with Spain’s magical beaches enchanting us once again. Platja de Ses Illetes, renowned as Formentera's most beautiful public beach, captivated us with its unique charm, featuring wooden walkways akin to a boardwalk stretching across a thin land strip with the ocean hugging both sides.
The scene was picturesque, complete with Vespa scooters lining the entrance. The atmosphere at es Ministre was lively, surrounded by joyful Spanish crowds enjoying their meals and Pellegrino, setting the stage for an exceptional dining experience.
Discovering Torre La Gavina
Our journey continued to Torre La Gavina, where initial attempts to settle were thwarted by rough seas, prompting Marco to navigate to a calmer spot within the cove for snorkeling. The underwater scenery was mesmerizing, with sea grasses dancing in the current, their green hues sparkling under the sunlight. This serene view, devoid of fish but rich in natural beauty, was a moment of pure tranquility and awe.
This trip to Formentera, marked by stunning landscapes, friendly faces, and new experiences, etched a promise in my heart: We have to come back here.
Each moment of our Charter from Ibiza to Formentera, from the clear waters of Cala Saona to the bustling atmosphere of es Ministre and the serene beauty of Torre La Gavina, was a testament to the island's enchanting allure, compelling us to plan our next visit to this paradisiacal destination.
